The Cover

My friend, Rhonda Smiga, shot the images for the book’s cover. Rhonda, an accomplished photographer, shot the images for all of my book covers. Her work has appeared in local periodicals and Woman’s World magazine.

Professional model and actress Shallan Marcum graciously agreed to do the shoot, and I feel she captured the essence of my main character, Peep Holler. The cover received a First Place Gold Award in AUTHROSdB 2013 Book Cover Contest. Below are some images from the photo session.

The significance of the suitcase: The suitcase symbolizes Peep’s burdens and her desire to run away, although she never does. Peep periodically dreams about her deceased mother, and in one of her dreams, her mom says: “Every suitcase you try to carry represents burdens you don’t need to bear. When you find yourself trying too hard to handle things…let go of the handle.”
