PRODUCER TALK
I had a wonderful talk with DBM Films award-winning producer Doug Maddox recently, by phone, for nearly an hour. He and I are anticipating great things in 2017 for “Mystic Dreams and Dusty Roads” book adaptation to film. For instance, the script is done, and there is a possibility that the other two books in the series could be made into films as well. After talking to him, I now have a greater understanding and appreciation of a producer’s role in the making of a movie. It’s definitely a process not to be rushed, but the result is well worth the wait. (Posted January 19, 2017.)
CELEBRATION TIME
Wow! A lot has happened since the release of my debut novel in January 2012. I appreciate so much my friend and photographer, Rhonda Smiga, and professional model, Shallan Marcum, who captured the essence of my main character, Peep Holler, for the front cover. Here are some pics from my first book signing with Shallan at a Dallas Half Price Books store in May 2013. That was the same year Shallan’s school library allowed her to display a poster of the book. Looking forward to what God has planned for this story when it is made into a movie. (Posted January 11, 2017.)

WHAT MAKES “MYSTIC DREAMS AND DUSTY ROADS” UNIQUE?

Many books exist about the Dust Bowl years of Oklahoma, but not many from a child’s perspective. And unlike the popular, “The Grapes of Wrath,” where a family leaves the Dust Bowl in search of a better life in California, my story is about those who stayed and endured one of the most devastating periods in American history.

The tale is about loss and life, tragedy and triumph, sorrow and strength. Even though I call it a fictionalized memoir, many of the emotions and events that my characters experience are familiar to a lot of us. In spite of everything, my main character, a young girl named Peep Holler, inspires people to believe that good things truly can come from whatever hardship, failure or disappointment they may face.
